"Tell me and I forget
Teach me and I remember
Involve me, and I learn"
An integral part of the education offered at CADMUS™ Iraq Gate is the Student Life Organization (SLO), a student-led mini-society that empowers students to get involved in the day-to-day experience at their school and offers countless academic, social, and emotional benefits for everyone involved.
Through the organization’s nine departments, students have the power to make a real difference in their school and their community. SLO prefects have the ability to organize academic and social events, host games and challenges, plan athletic activities, explore new skills, start clubs, raise awareness on important subjects, stand up for important causes, and much more.
By taking on this active role, students learn to take responsibility for their emotional, social, and moral growth as both individuals and members of a larger community. The real-life experiences students are exposed to help foster their personal development as well as provide them with a platform to acquire and refine skills, attitudes, and attributes that give them a huge advantage in university and beyond.
Some of these essential life skills include:
- Critical thinking
- Grit & Resilience
- Empathy & Tolerance
- Team Work
Having demonstrated that they have a broad base of abilities and experiences and that they can be effective team players, top universities from around the world are eager to attract and accept them. It is these same skills, attitudes, and attributes learned and developed through the SLO that make graduates from our school successful in university and beyond.
A Look Inside the SLO:
The Academic Department of the SLO implements engaging academic activities – including peer tutoring, academic competitions, study groups, and shadow teaching – that are designed to build students’ confidence in learning and develop their academic skills.
The Discipline Department helps ensure a safe environment within the school and teaches students how to abide by school rules and resolve any differences in a peaceful manner. The department also holds several bullying prevention campaigns to bring awareness to and help prevent bullying of any kind.
The management department is responsible for effective communication regarding all student life matters. In addition, the department is responsible for managing and maintaining the school premises.
The Sports Department promotes an appreciation for sports and encourages students to both get and stay in shape. It also helps create bonds between students and staff members through friendly sports tournaments and games.
The Wellness Department helps promote a healthy lifestyle among the community. This department organizes events and campaigns to help encourage and give both students and staff the necessary tools and tips to maintaining a healthy well-balanced life.
The Activities Department helps provide an outlet for students to explore, share, and teach others their talents and interests through clubs and/or events.
The Outreach Department ensures that both new and returning students are fully integrated into school life. This department arranges ambassadors for all new students and plans several events and campaigns to ensure that students are always motivated and eager to help others.
The Lower School Department dedicates time and effort into organizing trips, fun events, and daily academic and non-academic clubs for students in Lower School. The department helps increase the interaction between lower school and upper school students.
The Social Responsibility Department helps motivate and inspire students to give back to their community through various charitable and environmental projects.
